The “Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University” was founded on the basis of the Karaganda University of Mining (founded in 1953), which was reorganized as the Karaganda Technical University in 1958.

One of the university’s main focuses is research: the university has five modern research laboratories, including in the field of digitalization. One of the university’s departments – the Institute of Digital Education Technologies – develops portals and campaigns for the university and implements them independently.

The university offers a total of 45 bachelor’s degree programs (as of February 2024), including business administration, mining, audits in industry, industrial engineering, radio electronics, electronics and telecommunications, mechanical engineering, electricity management, heat economy and information technologies. The Master’s program comprises a total of 23 courses, including Information Technologies, Engineering, Industrial Processes, Architecture and Construction, Power and Thermal Engineering and Robotics.

The university also works closely with leading industrial companies in the region to train specialists and implement scientific standards based on Industry 4.0 digital technologies.

Another focus of the university is on expanding international cooperation with the aim of promoting the exchange of experience and knowledge transfer. For example, the university is currently working with Koschize University of Technology (Slovakia), Vilnius University of Technology (Lithuania) and the University of Lotharingia (France) on specific projects.
