Constant PV additions – significant differences in market segments
According to the Federal Network Agency in Germany, in the first eight months of 2021, i.e. from January to August 2021 – excluding large installations based on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), which would still have to be added – around 3.62 gigawatts of new PV capacity has already been installed in Germany, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period last year.
The reported PV additions in these months are distributed among four differently developing PV market segments as follows:
• PV market segment ≤ 30 kWp: 1,326 MW (market share 37 percent; change in installed capacity compared to the same period last year + 39 percent)
• PV market segment > 30 and ≤ 300 kWp: 591 MW (market share 16 percent; change in installed capacity compared to prior-year period – 8 percent)
• PV market segment > 300 and ≤ 750 kWp: 747 MW (market share 21 percent; change in installed capacity compared to prior-year period – 24 percent)
• PV market segment > 750 kWp: 953 MW (market share 26 percent; change in installed capacity compared to prior-year period + 94 percent)
