Gyumri, Armenia – June 25, 2024
In a milestone for sustainable education in Armenia, the Photon Gymnasium in Gyumri celebrated its inauguration as a Solar School on June 25, 2024. This momentous event marked the Gymnasium’s commitment to integrating renewable energy into its educational programs and setting an example of environmental responsibility.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from School Principal Karine Petoyan, who addressed a gathering of honored guests, teachers, and students. Among the attendees were Erik Tintrup, Chargé d’Affaires and Permanent Representative of the German Embassy in Yerevan; Benjamin Speth, Adviser for German as a Foreign Language from the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) in Armenia; and Christoph Urbschat, Managing Director of Ideas into Energy gGmbH.
An informative session followed, where students and teachers learned about the newly installed photovoltaic (PV) system from the installer. The program continued in the assembly hall, where the highlight of the event was the presentation of a certificate and three experimental kits for physics classes, symbolizing the school’s dedication to hands-on, innovative education.
As part of the ENABLING PV project, this initiative aims to inspire a new generation of students in Armenia to engage with renewable energy and sustainable practices. We are excited to see the positive impact this project will bring to students, teachers, and the community of Gyumri.
